Like anybody who's not an avid fan of working out, I really dread going to the gym. My husband and I go to the gym together a couple days a week and while he can run on the treadmill forever without getting tired or bored, I'm ready to go home after five minutes. I'm bored, crabby and unmotivated because I'm not in the mood to do something I'm not good at. I never thought I'd have fun working out, but my fitness instructor friend, Kitty D, changed all that.
I met Kitty last year when I started taking her classes at Bring It! Studios in Chanhassen. I absolutely love her Zumba on Fire class, and her Barre Booty classes leave you walking funny for days - in a hurt-so-good kind of way! Last spring when it was just her and I in class one night, she introduced me to Kangoo Jumps. She was the first to bring Kangoo to Minnesota, and Bring It! Studios is the only place in the entire state to offer Kangoo classes. After using Kangoo Jumps one time (we Zumba'd to a couple songs and that was it, it wasn't even for a full class period) I was a sweaty, out-of-breath mess, but I was hooked!
Where do I even start in describing these crazy looking bouncy work out boots... They're super fun and make running a hundred times easier. I am NOT a runner, but while wearing my Kangoo Jumps I feel like I could run a freaking marathon. You know that episode of the Office where Michael feels invincible in his jeans? (Click here for an awesome reminder.) THAT is how I feel in my Kangoos.
Kangoo Jumps were created for people who suffered from running injuries or were rehabilitating an injury and weren't able to run. Instead of hitting the hard pavement with your legs when you run, the Kangoos absorb the impact making running a lot easier and safer on your feet, shins, knees and back. Benefits of using Kangoo Jumps in your work out include joint protection, injury prevention, weight loss, endurance, increased energy, improved overall health, decreased stress and better posture. You use three times more exertion by running or walking in Kangoos, and wearing them burns 50% more calories than your regular old running shoes. Together the boots weigh 11 pounds, so every time you raise your knee to take a step, you are lifting 5.5 extra pounds of "one heck of a work out" with you. I'd also like to add that they're a great attitude and esteem booster! I wouldn't be able to run a mile if my life depended on it, but when wearing my Kangoos I could run a hundred miles (almost), and that makes me feel pretty awesome.
One day when some of us got together for a Kangoo run around a lake, one Kangoo-er pointed to a stop sign about 40 yards ahead and said his knees were so bad that he normally wouldn't even be able to run to the sign. Yet this same person has no problem taking a three mile jog around a lake in his Kangoos. They make running so much easier, and there is nothing hard about them! I seriously cannot put enough emphasis on that. I'm clearly not an all-star athlete, but this is something I can do where I feel like I'm doing it well. I sweat like no one's business while using my Kangoos, and even though my heart is pounding out of my chest, my body is not tired like it would be from running and I feel like I could go on for hours.
Incorporating Kangoo Jumps into your work out is a great way to improve your overall health, happiness and life. Why wouldn't you want to give them a try? I highly encourage anyone who loves or hates working out to look into these at www.JumpToFitness.com. It's impossible NOT to fall in love with Kangoos, and just try to be in a bad mood while wearing them, just try!
I wish I had some impressive "before" and "after" shots to share, but I like Blue Moon and pizza way too much for that.

If you'd like to check out some Kangoo Jumps and take a pair for a test run, get in touch with my friend Kitty! She'd love to take you for a Kangoo jog and explain the benefits to you while you're experiencing for yourself how great they are. She also does demonstrations for groups such as sports teams, fitness groups, race teams or health shows. Or let me know if you have any questions or would like to give them a try and I'll get your message to her! "Work out smarter, not harder!" - Kitty D.
